What is a steering column?

The steering column is a mechanical member connecting the steering wheel to the rack, enabling the user to steer the vehicle as desired.
This column is made up of several components:

  • The steering wheel, enabling the movement applied by the driver to be transmitted to the steering system,

  • the handle for adjusting the steering wheel's position in height and depth,

  • the guide body as well as the top of the column enabling the steering column to be connected to the rack,

  • an anti-theft system.

Our different columns.

Our different columns.

At thyssenkrupp Presta France, we manufacture 2 types of steering columns:
1 - Mechanical columns.
2 - Electric columns.

Between these 2 columns, there is a difference in terms of options and comfort.

The mechanical column is a classic column offering only the possibility of changing the steering wheel position manually.
With an electric column, you can create different profiles which can be interesting if several people use the same car.
Adjustments to the settings are then made automatically according to the selected profile.
